Physicist and #1 Bestselling Science Author for Kids

Coming to DuPage Children’s Museum

February 26, 2020

Chris Ferrie, physicist and #1 bestselling science author for kids proves it is never too early to introduce children (and adults) to big ideas with his science books for babies. Ferrie will be visiting DuPage Children’s Museum on Sunday, March 8 from Noon - 12:30 p.m. to do a reading and lead activities around his book series Baby University.

When it comes to baby books, farm animals and construction equipment abound. But where are the board books about science and math? In a world where toddlers operate smart-phones and computers before they learn to walk, is it really too soon to teach them Newton’s three laws of motion or Einstein’s theory of general relativity?

Physicist and mathematician, Chris Ferrie, knows that teaching children science and technology concepts early is crucial. “We teach our children lengthy worlds like hippopotamus- why not teach them to say proton, neutron, or electron too?” says Ferrie.

Introducing babies to math and science promotes literacy in these subjects later in life when they encounter them in school. Ferrie’s mission to treat babies like the geniuses they are led him to create Baby University, a board book series that introduces young readers to complex ideas like physics and math using simple explanations and colorful illustrations.

In Rocket Science for Babies readers will learn about the basics of aerospace engineering including the basics of hot lift and thrust that makes things fly. Quantum Physics for Babies and Newtonian Physics for Babies gives simple introductions to the principles that give quantum physics and Newton’s laws of motion their names. General Relativity for Babies introduces Einstein’s most famous theory and teaches babies all about black holes, gravitational waves, and more. All books in the series approach topics with a tongue-in-cheek humor that adults will love, and bright colorful illustrations to entice the youngest reader.

“We are so excited about Chris Ferrie’s upcoming visit to DCM! His books introduce big concepts and new words to children and their caregivers using playful examples,” said Kimberly Stull, Director of Exhibits & Operations. “Children are so capable of understanding big ideas and big words. The broader vocabulary a child has, the higher the potential they will think more deeply, express themselves more clearly, and learn new things more quickly.”

Books will be available for purchase onsite. This event is included with Museum admission or membership. Visit dupagechildrens.org/visit.
