Looking for fun Fall events in and around Naperville? This is the spot! I will update as necessary. Events will look a little different this year. Oktoberfest tickets are now on sale!

Traditional German cuisine and beer will be overflowing in a giant heated tent. On Friday, there will be lively Oompah music, and on Saturday, there will be a mix of Oompah music, modern polka, pop, R&B, and yacht rock. Enjoy one of the largest Oktoberfest beer varieties in the area and German food from local restaurants and food trucks! There will be lawn games for the whole family (Saturday) and a professional pumpkin carver onsite. Guests can test their strength in a stein-holding contest on Saturday from 5-5:30 p.m.


👻Ghost Stories in the Park . . . in the Dark!

Join in the fun as the Summer Place Theatre presents its annual Ghost Stories in the Park . . . in the Dark! Enjoy an evening of scary stories that will surely send shivers up your spine. This is an outdoor event; please dress warmly and bring blankets and cushions.

Not recommended for children under 5.

Tickets may be purchased over the phone, online at www.napervilleparks.org, or during regular business hours at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center or Fort Hill Activity Center. Tickets can be purchased until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, for the weekend's shows. After that time, tickets must be purchased at the performance. Cash, check, or PayPal are accepted at the event. Physical tickets are not distributed; staff checks you in at the event. Sorry, no refunds. (bm)

🧛Monster Bingo (NBL)

Date: Thursday, October 10, 2024

Time: 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm

Find the monster images on the game board to create a BINGO and win a small prize. This is a fun way for kids and caregivers to play BINGO together without needing to know how to read or recognize numbers. We'll also be reading a fun monster-themed story. Ages 3-5 with an adult caregiver. Limit 30 child/caregiver pairs.


🎃Scarecrow Weekend in St. Charles

Location: Lincoln Park, Riverside and First Ave, St. Charles, IL

The 39th annual Scarecrow Weekend will be held October 11th-13th in downtown St. Charles, Illinois.

110+ handmade scarecrows will be showcased around town for visitors to view and vote on their favorites. There will be a Family Zone with live entertainment and family fun, as well as an Activity Zone with festive photo ops, Scarecrow-to-Go, and family activities. Attendees can also enjoy live entertainment throughout the 1st Street Plaza throughout the weekend!


🌰Cantigny Fall Festival

For the second year in a row, our fall festival will be an entire weekend! The fun begins Friday night, October 11, from 4 – 11 pm with live music on the Cantigny parade field! Cozy up on the Adirondacks around a firepit or play lawn games. We’ll do it again on Saturday night after a fun day featuring over 50 craft vendors, hayrides, a petting zoo, live music and entertainment, kids’ crafts, and pumpkin and plant sales. Our three-day festival concludes at 4 pm on Sunday with another full day of colorful, seasonal fun for the whole family.


🍁Wheaton Harvest Pow Wow

The Harvest Pow Wow will be held on October 14-15, 2023. 🚜Hayrides-Family

Round up the family and take a hayride in the crisp autumn air through a beautiful Naperville park. You may bring your food to cook over the bonfire or bring the fixings for s'mores. We provide hot chocolate and apple cider. No alcohol allowed. Picnic tables are provided. Bring your chairs, blankets, flashlights, and insect repellent. 👻Halloween Spooktacular at Bolingbrook Promenade

🎃Pumpkin Night Hike for Families

Use pumpkins and lanterns to light your way on a self-guided night hike through Fullersburg Woods. There will be a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt for kids to complete and a treat at the end! 🚎Naperville Trolley Halloween Light Tour

Hop on the Naperville Trolley as we Trolley past some very highly decorated Halloween Homes in Naperville! It is encouraged for kids and adults to wear costumes if you want! (No glitter or costumes with glitter are allowed on the Trolleys.) You may hear a BANG! THUMP! or SCREAM! (Tour is appropriate for all ages.) The person that made this reservation is responsible for all the guests they bring and will let all guests know that no food and no candy of any kind is allowed on the Trolley. Drinks with a lid are permitted. No coolers allowed.

We will have activity stations and many local businesses handing out toys, coupons, stickers, candy, and more! (We do our best to encourage allergy-friendly treats; however, some may contain nuts. Please ask the sponsor if your child has severe allergies).

The cost is a $15 donation per family (benefiting Safety Town) and a nonperishable food item (benefiting Loaves and Fishes).

🏮Lantern-Lit Halloween Hike

Experience a 2-mile self-guided lantern-lit hike along spooky trails at St. James Farm, starting with a ghost story and ending with family and friends around the fire. 🎃Pumpkin Palooza at DuPage Children’s Museum

The 2024 Pumpkin Palooza at the DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville, Illinois will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 9 AM–2 PM. The event is included with museum admission.

The Pumpkin Palooza is a family-friendly celebration that features creative experiences that explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.) concepts through play. Some activities include: Scooping and squishing in pumpkin guts, Building a FrankenBuddy, and Bringing your own pumpkin to the DIY pumpkin makerspace.

Visitors are encouraged to come in costume.


🎃The Naperville Pumpkin Race

Friends of all ages and abilities are invited to create their own Pumpkin Racer in the Annual Naperville Pumpkin Race. Race in a unique side-by-side single elimination race in a funky, hilarious, suspenseful, and dramatic display of American ingenuity. Excitement builds as Pumpkin Racers battle head-to-head for the coveted Pumpkin Race Championship Trophy. We also award other prizes for Best Decorations, and best costume.

Come out and trick-or-treat in our barn! Horses are dressed to impress and will be handing out candy to all who attend! We encourage you to vote on which horse has the best costume. We will also have tractor-drawn wagon rides. Tractor Drawn Wagon Rides are $5 for ages 5 and up, under 5 are free. If you missed our Drill Team at Fall Festival this is your last chance to see them for the year! They will be doing a special spooky performance at 1pm!

Join us for an all-ages haunted house, just in time for Halloween! Our Teen Advisory Group (TAG) volunteers are putting together a haunted library that is sure to frighten and delight all the ghosts and goblins who visit.

The event will be held Rain or Shine!

Calling all costumed characters, ghouls, goblins, witches, and superheroes. Come to Downtown Naperville on 10/27 to enjoy a great morning filled with fun and surprises (both candy and non-candy goodies)! Dozens of downtown businesses will be open early (at 10am) and will be handing out Halloween surprises!

It's time to celebrate monsters! Listen to a short storytime and then use household supplies to create your very own monster and see how it stands up to engineering challenges! Ages 3-5 with their caregivers. Limit 20 participants.

🦄Halloween in the Park (95th)

Date: Thursday, October 31, 2024

Time: 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

Goblins, pumpkins, and puppets, oh my! Children of all ages and their caregivers can dress in costume and enjoy Halloween fun at Wagner Family Pavilion. Get into the spirit with stories, songs, and a puppet show about this favorite fall holiday.

This program will be held outdoors at the Wagner Family Pavilion at the 95th Street Community Plaza next to the library. In the event of inclement weather this program will be moved indoors to Meeting Room A/B.


🎃Pumpkin Smash 2024

Date: Saturday, November 9, 2024

Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location:  Community Garden Plots 811 S. West, Naperville IL

FREE! Drop off your jack-o-lanterns or pumpkins for composting. Remove candles, metal, and decorations (stickers, yarn, googly eyes, etc.) before dropping off. The annual Pumpkin Smash will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, 811 S. West Street. Area residents may bring their jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins to be smashed and composted into the soil at the Garden Plots, adding nutrients and water back into the soil.


🧛Scarecrow Trail at Morton Arboretum

Date: Daily in October 2024

Time: 7:00 a.m. to sunset

Location: Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, IL 60532

Meadow Lake Trail, near the Visitor Center

Stroll the path along Meadow Lake to see the friendly faces of Scarecrow Trail. Each scarecrow is handmade by a local scout troop. Scarecrow viewing is included with Arboretum admission.

After walking the trail, cast your vote for your favorite scarecrow. Voting information will be available around the trail and in the Visitor Center.

Fall Color Report

Fall Color 5K Run and Walk

The season kicked off with the annual Fall Color 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, October 7. Participants followed a scenic, rolling course through the Arboretum’s East Side.

Glass Pumpkin Patch

Guests and members enjoyed marvelous, one-of-a-kind glass creations at the 13th annual Glass Pumpkin Patch, Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15.

Walking Plays

Walk alongside an acting troupe and follow the action of classic literary tales, such as Anne of Green Gables, performed live throughout 1,700 acres of colorful trees and beautiful landscapes in the Arboretum’s Walking Plays series. Performances take place each weekend in October.

Scarecrow Trail roll the path along Meadow Lake throughout October to see the friendly faces of the Scarecrow Trail, enjoy scarecrows handmade by local scout troops and schools, and cast your vote for the winning designs.

Acorn Express Tram

Hop on a guided tram tour and enjoy a one-hour guided tour that winds you through the Arboretum’s woodlands, wetlands, prairie, and changing colors.
