Fall Market & Music Fest at McDonald Farm

Our Fall Market & Music Fest brings together two of our community’s favorite events at McDonald Farm – Music on the Farm and our annual Green Earth Fall Community Market! Visitors can explore all the wonderful things happening here on the farm, including Green Earth Harvest’s delicious organic vegetables, our farm share program’s local farm partners’ fruit, bread, oats, grains, eggs, milk, meat, and specialty flowers, along with other local businesses showcasing their market goodies and tasty treats. Tours of McDonald Farm will be offered, along with a conservation workshop, children’s activities, and, of course, live music and a food truck!

Fall on the Farm-Riverview Farmstead Preserve

Date: September 16, 2023

Location: Riverview Farmstead Preserve
Visit the farm for some old-fashioned fun and learn about life on the farmstead. Tour the limestone house and barns, meet some farmyard animals in the petting zoo, and try your hand at some farmstead chores. See tractors and antique farm equipment up close and personal and learn what they do.
The farm will be decorated for fall with plenty of photo opportunities, so bring your camera. There will be a barnyard-themed bounce house, make-and-take crafts, and fun activities for all ages. Smokin’ Z BBQ will be onsite to provide some delicious lunch options, and Tapville Social will be serving up cold brews. Get ready to have some old-fashioned fun on the farm!

Scarecrow Trail at Morton Arboretum

Meadow Lake Trail, near the Visitor Center
Stroll the path along Meadow Lake to see the friendly faces of Scarecrow Trail. Each scarecrow is handmade by a local scout troop. Scarecrow viewing is included with Arboretum admission.
After walking the trail, cast your vote for your favorite scarecrow. Voting information will be available around the trail and in the Visitor Center.

Fall Color 5K Run and Walk
The season kicked off with the annual Fall Color 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, October 7. Participants followed a scenic, rolling course through the Arboretum’s East Side.
Glass Pumpkin Patch
Guests and members enjoyed marvelous, one-of-a-kind glass creations at the 13th annual Glass Pumpkin Patch, Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15.
Walking Plays
Walk alongside an acting troupe and follow the action of classic literary tales, such as Anne of Green Gables, performed live throughout 1,700 acres of colorful trees and beautiful landscapes in the Arboretum’s Walking Plays series. Performances take place each weekend in October.
Scarecrow Trail
Stroll the path along Meadow Lake throughout October to see the friendly faces of the Scarecrow Trail, enjoy scarecrows handmade by local scout troops and schools, and cast your vote for the winning designs.

Acorn Express Tram
Hop on a guided tram tour and enjoy a one-hour guided tour that winds you through the Arboretum’s woodlands, wetlands, prairie, and changing colors.
No matter what you choose, there are so many ways to celebrate the season at the Arboretum. Plan your visit today!


Tractor-Drawn Wagon Ride at Danada

Tickets may be purchased over the phone, online at napervilleparks.org, or during regular business hours at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center or Fort Hill Activity Center. Tickets can be purchased until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7 for the weekend’s shows. After that time, tickets must be purchased at the performance. Pumpkin Night Hike for Families

Use pumpkins and lanterns to light your way on a self-guided night hike. There will be a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt for kids to complete and a treat at the end. Hikes leave every 15 minutes. The event will be held rain or shine – most activities are indoors and outdoor activities will be under tents.
Costume Contest begins at 6:00P outside on the sidewalk along Warren Avenue (Awards following the judging of each age category.) If it is raining, the Costume Contest will be moved indoors on the FitnessNOW walking track.

Come out and trick-or-treat in our barn! Horses are dressed to impress and will be handing out candy to all who attend! We encourage you to vote on which horse has the best costume. We will also have tractor-drawn wagon rides. Tractor Drawn Wagon Rides are $5 for ages 5 and up, and under 5 are free. If you missed our Drill Team at Fall Festival this is your last chance to see them for the year! They will be doing a special spooky performance at 1 p.m.


Pumpkin Palooza at DuPage Children’s Museum

Naperville Pumpkin Race at Rotary Hill

Race in a unique side-by-side elimination race in a funky, hilarious, suspenseful, and dramatic display of American ingenuity. Excitement builds as Pumpkin Racers battle head-to-head for the coveted Pumpkin Race Championship Trophy. We also award other prizes for Best Decoration and Best Costume.

Pumpkin Smash at the Garden Plots

The annual Pumpkin Smash will take place from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, located at 811 S. West Street. Area residents may bring their jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins to be smashed and composted into the soil at the Garden Plots, adding nutrients and water back into the soil.
